About Incoloy Alloy A-286 Introduction
Incoloy Alloy A-286 (also known as A286 Stainless Steel) is a nickel- and iron-based austenitic superalloy for applications requiring high strength and corrosion resistance up to 1300°F (704°C) and lower stress Applications at higher temperatures. The mechanical properties of this alloy are enhanced by appropriate solution annealing and precipitation hardening treatments.
This alloy has excellent high temperature oxidation resistance and is designed to maximize creep and stress rupture properties, but with reduced strength. A-286 material can achieve high strength levels when aged after cold working, and has a wide range of applications in high temperature fasteners and springs.
Mechanical properties and yield strength of A286:
A286-type alloys are most readily formed under solution-treated conditions. Typical room temperature tensile properties of solution treated materials at 1800°F (982°C) are shown below.

Corrosion and oxidation resistance
The chromium, nickel, and molybdenum contents of A286-type alloys are similar to some austenitic stainless steels. Therefore, the alloy has similar water resistance to these grades. Corrosion resistance levels to at least 1300°F (704°C) in higher temperature service, such as those found in jet engine applications. High oxidation resistance in continuous duty up to 1500°F (816°C) and intermittent duty up to 1800°F (982°C).
